This is a BIG Deal
Screenwriter Howard Michael Gould makes the case for how huge the Internet residual is for members of the WGA.
He is sensible, calm, and understands that this issue cannot be a point concession. There must be no compromise. The producers have already started to monetize their Internet distribution of shows and movies. It is clearly their wish to reap rewards from it without sharing with those who created the content in the first place. It is unconscionable to exclude writers from that pie.
The $.04 rate for DVDs was a criminal concession 20 years ago. Giving ground now and getting NOTHING for Internet distribution would make that mistake look like sunshine and happiness.
